Mercy Corps Ventures is the impact investing arm of Mercy Corps, the global humanitarian and development agency operating in over 40 countries. Founded in 2015, MCV invests in and catalyses venture-led solutions that increase the resilience of underserved individuals and communities in frontier markets — backing founders building bold answers to climate volatility, financial exclusion and the fragility of food systems and supply chains, who too often remain undercapitalised.

The track record is substantial: MCV has supported over 60 early-stage ventures which have gone on to raise more than $750 million in follow-on capital, with around 45% of the portfolio having at least one female co-founder. Africa is central to its work, with African portfolio companies including Wasoko, Pula, Turaco, Tappi, Ejara, Kalpay and Bitmama, alongside investments in Latin America and Asia. Its investment focus spans adaptive agriculture and food systems, inclusive climate fintech and climate-smart technologies. What distinguishes MCV is its “More than Capital” approach: alongside seed and early-stage investment, it runs a grant-funded Venture Platform providing expert guidance, partnerships and technical tools; a Venture Lab offering up to $100,000 in grant funding to pilot cutting-edge climate technologies; and a best-in-class impact measurement framework. It has also been one of the most serious institutional players in real-world Web3 for development — its Crypto for Good Fund has run multiple rounds with 15+ pilots launched, providing equity-free grants of up to $100,000 to startups applying blockchain to financial inclusion and climate resilience, including blockchain-enabled anticipatory cash transfers for Kenyan pastoralist households facing climate stress.
