Profile
Grey is a cross-border fintech providing inclusive global banking for freelancers, remote workers, digital nomads and businesses across emerging markets. Founded in Nigeria (originally as Aboki Africa, rebranding to Grey in 2022) and backed by Y Combinator, Grey lets users open foreign bank accounts (USD, GBP, EUR) from their phone for free — receiving, sending, exchanging and managing multiple currencies in one app, with instant virtual cards and competitive exchange rates.
Grey has grown from its Nigerian roots into a genuinely multi-market platform: it now serves users across Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria and beyond Africa into Brazil, Mexico, India, Indonesia, China and the Philippines. Its product philosophy centres on removing barriers for global earners — zero account and card maintenance fees, free P2P payments, IBANs for business needs, invoicing, bill payments, gift cards and expense management, plus an app localised into languages including Swahili. Grey is ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified and regulated through FINTRAC (Canada) and FinCEN (US), and has built a distinctive lifestyle brand around its community (“The Grey Area”) and its Limitless podcast, with coverage in Forbes Africa, TechCrunch and CNBC Africa.
