Scott Onder
Scott Onder is the Chief Investment Officer of Mercy Corps where he leads the agency’s global strategy for impact investing, innovative finance, Web3 initiatives, and strategic partnerships with technology ventures.
Scott is also the Co-Founder Mercy Corps Ventures, a venture capital fund that has invested in over 54 seed and early-stage companies developing climate adaptation and resilience building solutions in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. He led the development of MCV’s East Africa portfolio out of Nairobi including investments in Pula (15M+ farmers impacted across 22 countries), Powered by People, and Wasoko (the second fastest growing company in Africa in 2023 according to the Financial Times that has attracted $100M+ investment and achieved unicorn $1B+ status).
Scott is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and former majority shareholder representative of MiCRO, a pioneering micro-insurance company offering parametric policies to low-income clients in Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia, and Mexico. He led MiCRO to a successful acquisition by Howden Group which will enable MiCRO to achieve greater scale.
He is involved in a range of industry working groups including the WEF Humanitarian and Resilience Investment Initiative, Digital ID Initiative, CISA Sustainability Accelerator and the Climate Venture Investment working group of the CIFAR Alliance and the International Climate Finance Accelerator.
He graduated magna cum laude from Duke University and travels extensively in Africa and Latin America to manage investments, team and portfolio.
