Daniel Mainda

Daniel was appointed as the first substantive Chief Executive Officer of the Nairobi International Financial Centre in December 2024. Daniel brings over seventeen years of global experience in finance, investment, and offshore markets, making him a strategic leader poised to drive innovation and sustainable growth.

Prior to his appointment, Daniel served as the Head of Global Banking & Group Collaboration at SBM Bank where he spearheaded efforts to enhance cross-border business across Kenya, Mauritius, India, and Madagascar. As a key part of their leadership team, he was instrumental in establishing SBM Bank Kenya and successfully managed its Global Corporates and International Banking Division. Daniel has significant experience building and facilitating the successful entry of financial institutions across the African continent. He was responsible for building SBM’s Africa business, as well as leading the investment and management arms for the Africa operations of Conros Corporation in Canada. At Conros, he was also responsible for congregating key public and private sector players to boost Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for their businesses in the East Africa region. In addition to his executive role, Daniel serves on several strategic boards across East Africa in diverse sectors such as IT, distribution and experiential marketing, where he chairs several Finance Committees. Daniel holds an MBA in Finance and a BBA in International Business from the USA, complemented by advanced training in Strategic Management, Governance, and Leadership. A strong advocate for innovation and sustainability, Daniel is well-versed in targeting global and regional businesses, including private equity and venture capital funds, asset managers, insurance companies, and fintech innovators. His focus on green finance underscores his commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and creating value-driven partnerships.
