Amollo Ambole

Amollo Ambole is the inaugural program director of the African Mayoral Leadership Initiative (AMALI), an exclusive, tailored program for city leaders across Africa to hone the visions for their cities through peer learning, mentorship, and research support. hosted by the African Centre for Cities (ACC) in partnership with Big Win Philanthropy.

She led the conceptualization of AMALI, beginning with a landscaping study and engaging stakeholders in the city leadership space. In 2022, Big Win partnered with the ACC to co-develop the initiative, intending to launch formally in January 2023.

Before joining Big Win, She was a full-time academic with over 14 years of research experience in development studies, creative arts, product design, and climate change. Through collaborative and transdisciplinary research projects, I worked closely with residents in informal settlements, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners in multiple African countries to co-design solutions to urban development challenges such as energy poverty, sanitation, and non-communicable diseases. I have published my research in impact factor journals and popular science platforms.

She does high-altitude hikes, dance Kizomba, and snorkel in Diani to rejuvenate.
